Fall and Winter Houseboat Destinations

Summer comes and goes before you know it. You didn't get to all the things you hoped to accomplish, like taking that one last relaxing vacation you so desperately need to re-set for the coming colder months. All is not lost; you can STILL enjoy a houseboat vacation this year! There is still time!

Whether you're out to enjoy the fall colors and some much needed downtime or for the spectacular fishing, you can still squeeze in one last vacation before it becomes too cold in most areas.

Soak in that last bit of sun before settling into hybernation.

Some of our locations operate year round:

Other lakes like Lake Mead and Lake Mohave in southern Nevada, and Lake Powell on the border of Utah/Arizona are popular spots all year. However, it can get chilly at night and the water temperature can be too cold for swimming or water sports (unless you have a wet suit or super human skin, maybe.)

Hurry, before the season's over!

Many locations end their houseboating season and take their houseboats off the lake for dry storage and/or renovations. This varies by location, but for the most part houseboating season nears to an end between mid-October and November or until the first freeze. Lake of the Woods (MN), Raystown (PA), Erie Canal (NY), Mississippi River (WI), Kentucky/Tennessee Lakes, Sutton (WV) and Smith Mountain Lake (VA) are a few examples.

Perks of taking a houseboat vacation off-season:

Cost

- As school starts back up in the fall, there is a decrease in demand for a houseboat vacation; houseboat pricing can drop up to 30% just by going later in the year! A built in discount that makes visiting later in the year well worth the wait.

Less Crowded

- Again, with school back in session, there is also a lower volume of people that are on the lake at the same time. This allows for more privacy and room to play and explore for you and your group.

Specials/Discounts

-With a higher supply in enventory, and less of a demand, some marinas will offer additional specials or discounts before or after the peak summer season. Be sure to visit our Specials Page or call one of our agents for details on current deals.

Fishing

- With cooler waters comes better fishing conditions. Bass fishing is at it's peak in the fall, and a major draw at Lake Cumberland in Kentucky, and Lake of the Woods in Minnesota. Walleye, pike, and muskie (among others) are in larger population in the months following Labor Day.
