You may have noticed that we've recently expanded our houseboat inventory at the Florida Keys. In addition to the 38' Houseboat with the Island at Marathon, we are excited to announce our partnership with Gilbert's Resort in Key Largo!
Key Largo is known as "the first of the Florida Keys" as it is the northernmost of the Florida Keys. Gilbert's Resort is a mere 45 minute drive from the lights of Miami, but it is worlds away from ordinary. Escape to the laid back atmosphere provided by Gilbert's Resort where "dress is casual and shoes are optional." Bask in the simple life with a Caribbean Island feel at the resort dock on one of their four houseboats. These houseboats are perfect for a small family or group of friends for an intimate getaway. Staying on a houseboat will provide you with a front row seat to beautiful waterway views and breathtaking sunrises. The houseboats remain docked at the marina for the duration of your stay, but you are welcome to enjoy the resort's amenities while you're there:
- Relax at the resort's private beach lined with tiki huts for shade, or at the pool for live music.
- Anglers, grab your fishing gear and fish directly from the dock, there's no fishing license required! The area is known for its supply of Snook, Snapper, Trout, Tarpon and Yellowtail among others. Bring your day's catch to the chef and he will prepare it special for you!
- The Tiki Bar offers nightly live entertainment, from karaoke and magic shows to live music and dancing. Or swing by during the day for some tropical drinks or their famous Key Largo Mahi Mahi sandwich.
- Don't feel like cooking? No problem! The Restaurant overlooks the water and serves fresh seafood, steak, and authentic German cuisine crafted by German Head Chef Georg Shu.
The fun isn't limited to just the resort, there are endless activities to enjoy nearby. Key Largo is referred to as the "diving capital of the world" because of its stunning living reefs. John Pennekamp State Park, a.k.a. "Coral Reef State Park" offers an array of tours and rentals for scuba diving and snorkeling, as well as glassbottom boat tours for the water intolerant. Head to the Everglades National Park for an airboat ride, or to visit an alligator farm. There are even opportunities and excursions to check off an item on everyone's bucket list...to swim with the dolphins!
Come back to your cozy "boatel" after a fun-filled day of sun and adventure to relax in your own space on the water. Enjoy a homemade meal from your fully equipped houseboat kitchen, or give the family cook a night off and head to the Restaurant or Tiki Bar. Then kick back on the top deck and watch the sun disappear into the horizon.
It's a dream vacation wrapped in one neat and unique package. So now there's the question, why not go to the Florida Keys?
