Voyageurs National Park is a place of interconnected waterways that flow west, and eventually north as part of the arctic watershed of the Hudson Bay. Voyageurs National Park is made up of 26 small and 4 large interior lakes including Rainy Lake, another popular destination that offers houseboats. This park is popular for its excellent water resources and is most popular with canoers, kayakers, boaters and fishermen. Many come from out of state and country to experience the thick green forested terrain, the Kabetogama Peninsula and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wildernes. The Kabetogama Peninsula lies within the park making up most of its land area and is only boat accessible. To the east of the National Park lies the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The most visited of the National Parks, this 1900 acre vast area is known for its forests, glacial lakes, streams and kayaking heaven. Rainy Lake is a strikingly alluring lake that might seem endless as you navigate through undeveloped wilderness, hidden bays, secluded beaches 221,000 acres of space and its 2,500 plus islands. The Rainy River issues from the west side of the lake and is harnessed to make hydroelectricity for US and Canadian locations. Birch Lake is located in the Superior National Forest in Northern Minnesota and voted one of Minnesota’s most scenic lakes by Boating World Magazine. Located at the edge of Superior National Forest and Boundary Water Canoe Area in Tower, Minnesota you will come across one of the most scenic lakes in the whole country, Lake Vermilion. Vermilion takes its name from the translation of the Ojibwe word "Omamuni", meaning "Lake of the Sunset Glow." If you are able to travel in between September and early November, you will be in awe over the brilliant colors of the fall foliage. Bald Eagles and Loons make their homes along the shoreline so be sure to be on the lookout! With over 600 islands, 1200 miles of shoreline and 40,000 acres of water, fisherman can find a variety of fish in these parts. Most popular are Black Crappie, Bluegill, Golden shiner, Bass, Brown Bullhead, Muskie, Pumpkinseed and White suckers.
