Water Levels on Lake Travis

Some of you have expressed concern about the lower water level at Lake Travis in the heart of Texas. Popular misconception is that it's almost or completely dried up. Good news is, that's not the case at all. In fact, even as the lake is only 37% full, parts of the lake are still over 100 feet deep. The water level will not hinder your houseboat vacation in the slightest, although access to parking lots and landing areas have changed since the water level drop. The parking lots are further from the water, but the launching areas at both Emerald Point and Harborside marinas are open and able to launch your personal or rental power boats and watercrafts without issue.

Lake Travis is still the largest and cleanest lake in Texas even considering the current water level. Only 25 minutes northwest from the city of Austin, Lake Travis is the perfect getaway from the city to enjoy the serene waters and breathtaking scenery. Lake Travis is also very well known for its spectacular sunsets, deeming it the "sunset capital of the world." Unwind each night on the top deck of your houseboat and sit in awe under the watercolor sky.

Not only are the waters of Lake Travis fit for houseboating, the lower lake levels allow you to navigate what has previously been underwater territory. More coves have been opened up due to the water level so there's more to explore! It is also safer for navigating the houseboats to different parts of the lake as the once shallow and dangerous areas are now dry. The "Sometimes Islands" are also more accessible for houseboats in the main basin of the lake now than previously. There was little wind cover in these spots before, but they are now a prime location to moor your houseboat.

Now that the myth of the water level has officially been busted, when will you visit Lake Travis?
